01. Who we are

We are The House of Seshat, alias, The House. The House is a knowledge management and cultural transmission institute committed to centering African thought in the making of culture, policy, and power. Our work is intent on contextualizing, translating and making knowledge actionable, by bridging the gap between research, local realities and decision-making. Guided by the tenets to Think, Do, and Feel, we’re building a home for ideas; a space where archives, creative expression and rigorous inquiry come together to shape how Africa is understood, both from within and beyond.

At our core, we see ourselves as modern-day scribes, with our name – Seshat, taken from the female scribe, record keeper and ancient Egyptian goddess symbolising knowledge, wisdom and creative thought in one of Africa’s most advanced civilizations – reflecting the pursuit of The House.

Our work currently centers intellectual and cultural labor across these core four focus areas and strategies:

  • – History
  • – Art & Culture
  • – Technology,
  • – Geopolitics,

The House (Concept & Vision)

Beyond the digital work, the House is imagined as more than just an idea or platform.

At its core, the House represents an idea for an evolving ecosystem of physical and intellectual spaces across the continent, where research, culture, and critical conversations can live, grow, and be shared.

The metaphor of “the House” thus reflects this vision, a physical space that brings together different forms of knowledge, disciplines, and people into one connected system.

What the House is working on Right Now

Water that is begged for does not quench your thirst.

The sudden withdrawal of donor funding across Africa has sparked panic — but nearly every response calls for a return to the old order. The House of Seshat rejects that. In our first House Note, we argue that this is not a crisis, but a chance to dismantle a model built on dependency, external control, and inherited narratives. It’s time for Africa to claim financial sovereignty, reclaim ideological agency, and rebuild public institutions on its own terms.

Project In Development: Uganda 2026 — The Digital Frontline

As Uganda heads toward its 2026 elections, digital platforms have become the decisive civic arena. The House of Seshat is launching a participatory research project examining how AI-generated content, online narratives, and state surveillance are colliding to reshape democratic participation. Culminating in a bold, visually-driven zine, this work will document Uganda’s digital frontline and its lessons for Africa’s electoral futures.
